Other websites offering Accutron Repair and/or Accutrons for sale ask incredible prices and oftentimes give you only one or two photos in order for you to judge the quality of their Accutrons. There is a reason for this as their Accutrons are typically unrestored, commonly with incorrect parts, and with over-polished cases. Often, their watches have case backs with incorrect date codes and incorrect Accutron hands. All of my Accutrons have been meticulously restored with correct factory-like finishes, including correct circular and vertical finishes on case backs. I'll offer you several photos of each watch to help you make an informed decision. And all of my Accutrons have been adjusted to keep excellent time using modern 387s batteries. Others may claim to include free case restorations but that is because their repair fees are so high and all they really do is over polish. If you choose to have a restoration performed, I actually remove scratches, polish cases, and reapply a factory-like finish on rotating Astronaut rings, case backs, battery hatches and crowns so that your Accutron will look as good or nearly as good as it did when it was new. I've never had a customer displeased with one of my restorations and most everyone has said they can't believe I was able to remove over 40 years of wear. You may be able to find worn, non-serviced and less expensive Accutrons on Ebay that will work for awhile, but after you factor in your risk with the cost of restoration and repair you'll spend more money and wait even longer to wear your prized Accutron Astronaut or Accutron Spaceview than if you purchased one right here. You know what they say, "You get what you pay for", and in this case it is certainly true. The original Accutron was the first and only watch-size timepiece powered by a battery which did not use a balance wheel and hairspring. Instead, the Accutron mechanism has a tuning fork as the timekeeping element. This includes the Accutron Astronaut, Accutron Spaceview, Accutron Railroad, and other asymmetrical Accutrons such as the Accutron Alpha, Accutron Center Lug, Accutron TV Case, and Accutron Anniversary. The tuning fork is driven with energy from a tiny power cell, or battery, by means of an electronic circuit. The vibratory motion of the tuning fork is converted into rotary motion, for turning time-indicating hands, by means of a simple but incredible small mechanism.

The outstanding characteristic of the Accutron timepiece, in comparison with traditional watches, is its accuracy of timekeeping. A tuning fork is inherently accurate, unlike a balance wheel and hairspring. Also, having no pivots or bearings, the Accutron accuracy is independent of the of the effects of lubrication and wear. It is this uniqueness which permitted the Bulova Watch Company to give a written guarantee of specific accuracy with each Accutron timepiece. The guarantee stated that the Accutron would not gain or lose more than a minute a month in normal use as a wrist timepiece.

Accutron watches were conceived, developed, designed and manufactured entirely within the organization of the Bulova Watch Company, Inc. It first made its appearance in the jewelry stores in November 1960. Therefore, those with the date code of MO on the case back are the amongst the first of all Accutrons. Unlike many space-age devices, the Accutron timepiece was developed solely as a consumer item, although it was also used in many important applications in the United State's exploration of outer space. New applications were constantly being found where the Accutron's unusual combination of characteristics such as accuracy of timekeeping, tiny size, and long running time on a self-contained source of power were advantageous.

Because the Accutron timepiece was and is so completely unlike a conventional watch, and because of the remarkable success of the Accutron Spaceview and Accutron Astronaut, many people today are still fascinated with this remarkable timepiece, finding themselves driven to purchase the next Accutron to add to their growing collections. I am one of those people and am in awe at the mechanical accomplishment of including a tuning-fork for time-keeping inside of a wristwatch.

Accutrons, Accutron Spaceview and Accutron Astronaut watches are pieces of watch history and represent a time in American technology and resourcefulness that still resonates with nostalgia of our race to space in the sixties.

Just listen to the unmistakable sound of the Accutron hum and you may never go back to a conventional wristwatch. The Accutron has a soul not found in today's quartz watches. I purchased my first of many Accutron Spaceviews over 20 years ago. My first of the many Accutron Astronauts I have restored came about 2 years later. All told, I've owned and repaired hundreds of vintage Accutrons. The better and rarer examples are getting much harder to find and are becoming more valuable all the time. Oh, if I could just find the elusive Platinum 214.

One day, when we retrieve from the moon the Apollo 11 seismometer left on the Sea of Tranquility by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in 1969, and the timer from Apollo 12 in the central data station also placed on the moon on the Ocean of Storms by Pete Conrad and Alan Bean also in 1969, collectibility is really going to go through the roof when the rest of world rediscovers the nostalgia and history behind the Accutron. Accutron values have been steadily climbing but when that day comes owners of the better examples are going to be very happy, indeed.
